Preventing Frozen Pipes

Posted on January 6, 2017 in Uncategorized

Brr! It’s cold outside! We have several days ahead that’s forecast to be below freezing. This can cause issues impacting a lot of residents involving frozen water pipes. As the water in pipes freezes it expands, creating as much as 2,000 pounds of pressure per square inch, enough to cause almost any pipe filled with water to rupture. The bad news is that a burst pipe can releases hundreds of gallons of water per hour, causing thousands of dollars in damage to repair.
Exposed Pipes that pass through unheated spaces, such as unfinished basements, can freeze and burst in cold weather. To avoid a disaster, wrap the metal with fiberglass insulation or premolded foam-rubber sleeves, sealing the corners to ensure coverage, especially on vulnerable elbows. Also close vents around the outside of your home in the winter and open them back up in the warm spring. If you need help insulating your pipes or fixing your frozen pipes please call R.J.
