Water Filtration Systems in Richmond
Choose Filtration Based on the Water in Your Home
The right equipment depends on what’s in your water and how your household uses it. R.J. Tilley Plumbing & Remodeling assesses your water and discusses your needs before recommending and installing a filtration system.
We’re a family-owned residential plumbing and remodeling company that has served Richmond since 1976. Our A+ BBB rating reflects the care we bring to residential plumbing projects, including filtration system installation.

Water Filtration Options for Richmond Homes
We install whole-house purifiers, under-sink reverse osmosis systems and water softeners. Because each option serves a different purpose, we assess the water and learn what you want to change before recommending equipment.
Whole-House Purification
A whole-house system treats water as it enters the home, before it reaches your fixtures.
Under-Sink Reverse Osmosis
This system provides treated water at a dedicated fixture. Reverse osmosis uses pressure and a semipermeable membrane to separate dissolved substances from water. Our multi-stage systems remove up to 99% of dissolved solids, including heavy metals such as lead and arsenic.
Water Softening
Water softeners reduce dissolved hardness minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium. Hardness doesn’t indicate whether municipal water meets applicable drinking-water standards.
Richmond’s Water Supply & At-Home Filtration
Richmond’s public water supply comes from the James River and is operated by the City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities. In 2024, the department reported conducting more than 63,000 tests on over 15,000 water samples, with 100% compliance with federal and state Safe Drinking Water Act Maximum Contaminant Levels.
Municipal compliance and at-home filtration address different questions. Compliance shows whether public water meets regulated standards. An assessment at your home identifies the conditions a filtration recommendation should address.
Richmond’s 2020 Consumer Confidence Report recorded water hardness at 76 parts per million and total dissolved solids at 125 parts per million. Total dissolved solids measure the combined concentration of dissolved minerals, salts and similar substances. Because these figures come from a dated municipal report, they provide context but can’t replace an assessment of the water at a particular home.

From Water Assessment to System Installation
We begin by assessing your water and discussing your needs, including whether you want filtration throughout the home or at a dedicated drinking-water fixture.
Based on the results and your goals, we recommend a suitable system, explain why it fits and install the selected equipment. Our process focuses on addressing the conditions in your home, not simply making a sale.
Clear Water Filtration System Pricing
Cost depends on the selected equipment and the conditions it must address. Whole-house purification, under-sink reverse osmosis and water-softening equipment each have different installation requirements.
We provide clear, upfront pricing with transparent estimates. Start the conversation through our contact form or call us to describe your concerns and the type of filtration you’re considering.
Find the Right Filtration System for Your Home
Your recommendation will be grounded in the conditions identified during the assessment and your goals. We’ll explain the proposed equipment and installation, then provide a transparent estimate before work begins.
